Inspiration can stem from many places for a designer…but the best ideas are those from well-trusted, artistic friends. This week, we highlight my design besties and their amazing work.
Megan and I met in college studying Interior Design, we spent countless hours studying, working on projects together, drinking wine and eating pizza. Luckily our husbands became pals too and now we are forever friends watching our children grow and supporting each other through this crazy life of balancing motherhood and our design work. Megan is a georgeous brunette that is just as smart as she is beautiful. I am always in awe of how hard she works and what an incredible mother she is…..and she is just beyond talented. Megan and her partner Sandy, of Accentrics Interiors in Tampa, have exquisite style, incredible industry knowledge and are a constant inspiration to us. I love their quest for perfection when it comes to finding the perfect textiles and furniture finishes. I am always inspired by their partnership and super jealous that Sandy gets to work with one of my best buds.
Bryce and I go back, like way back…. I remember when Bryce’s design journey started, One night at his apartment many moons ago, probably watching the Bachelor, I was talking about my Interior Design classes and he said “ya know what? I think that’s what I want to do”….and that’s just what he did. And boy, did he! He attacked his design degree while working multiple jobs and has continued to climb the ladder of success in Commercial Design ever since. He has designed local well known restaurants and has gone on to work for Hard Rock International creating wildly imaginative spaces in hotels across the world. There are so many BIG things that are happening for this friend of mine. Bryce is an edgy, unique and an incredibly talented Interior Designer …. and I just can’t wait to see what life has in store for him.
Lindsay and I first met each other as Disney Princesses 15 years ago and I am so grateful for the friendship we’ve built in the last few years. We bounce ideas off each other, pick up the phone and know we have someone to vent to after a tough day and are always looking forward to our next girls trip. In my opinion, Lindsay is the epitome of fancy…. she is an accomplished New York City designer that never ceases to amaze me. She’s worked for renowned architects and design firms such as Marc-Michaels Interior Design and Gensler, but if you ask me, when budding designers have the opportunity to work with her, they should proudly write on their resumes that they learned from the incomporable Lindsay McCrae. Her style is impeccable, eclectic and one of a kind, and besides all that, Lindsay’s heart is just as big as her style.
John is one of those friends when we are together it feels as if we’ve know each other forever…. he’s warm, funny, charming and so talented. Being able to watch John from when we were in college together to where he has grown his business, has been such an inspiration… he is one of the hardest working people I know. And as if his talent for Interior Design wasn’t enough of an inspiration, he has his own line of custom furniture, lighting and decor that is a must see. I will never forget the first time I got to see John in his Gilded Home showroom at High Point Market, I was beaming for him. I cherish our friendship and even though both work in the same town and he’s wildly successful, I love the fact that there’s never been an air of competition and that we’ve always supported each other. He’s one of a kind!
